Hello,
"The Volatile Society" or book three of American Slavery, American Freedom explores the growing discontent between government officials in seventeenth century Virginia and the average Virginia citizen at the time. Morgan's quotation "Virginians could be so heavily exploited legally because they were selected for that purpose: they were brought to the colony to be exploited." is a historical argument that requires further review. Not all Virginians came to the new world seeking fortunes and seeking exploitation from the Virginia Company. However, Seventeenth Century Virgina was set up by government officials as a non-charitable enterprise. Profits vs. charity would remain a re-occuring theme in Virginia's early history.
Thanks again
