Hello Everybody:
Edmund Morgan's assumption in Book 1 of American Slavery, American Freedom is that Native Americans remained idle in the eyes of English settlers. A contrasting question that could be raised from Morgan's assumption is how did the Idians view the working habits of seventeenth century Virgians? Morgan's comment "The Indians of the Virginia region would not likely to mistake the English for gods" seems to be backed up by historical evidence in the book. It must be remembered that seventeenth century Virginia was a frontier outpost of the English empire and that no Virginia Company representative could predict what would happen as English settlers met Native Americans in the new world.
Thanks Again
