To me, the concept of power is present throughout Bederman’s
book, though she doesn’t undertake the concept directly and does not consider
it as one of the factors, though it is behind each of the factors in the discourse of civilization. That is, why she doesn’t discuss it as evident in
race, gender, and millennial assumptions along with Darwin’s survival of the fittest?
Perhaps power is too analytical compared to materialist conceptions that are
evident in race, gender, and millennial ideas of ‘civilization’s progress.’ Does anyone have
any thoughts about this?
